Refund & Cancellation

Last updated: 4 August 2026 All amounts in Canadian dollars

Membership dues fund the chamber's work for the year ahead, so we ask people to join deliberately. That said, nobody should feel trapped in a membership they joined by mistake — this page sets out exactly when dues come back, how renewals work, and how to cancel.

01What this covers

This policy applies to annual membership dues paid to the BC Muslim Chamber of Commerce, and to fees for chamber events where a fee is charged. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

Creating an account is free. Nothing on this page applies unless you have actually paid something.

02How dues work

Membership dues are annual, priced by how long your business has been in operation — Starter $120, Growth $180, Established $240, Visionary $500 — and are charged in advance for the full membership year. Your membership year runs from the date your first payment is taken. Payments are processed by Stripe.

03New member cooling-off

Full refund within 14 days If you are a new member and change your mind within 14 days of your first dues payment, ask us and we will refund it in full — no explanation needed.

Your membership ends when the refund is issued, and your directory listing comes down. This applies once, to a first membership; it is not available on a renewal.

04After the cooling-off period

Once the cooling-off window has passed, dues for the current membership year are non-refundable. We do not issue partial or pro-rated refunds for time remaining, for benefits you chose not to use, or for events you did not attend.

You can still cancel at any time — see the next section. Cancelling stops the next year's charge; it does not refund the year you are in, and your membership stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.

If something has gone wrong, tell us anyway. The chamber will look at genuinely exceptional circumstances — a business closing, a serious illness, a bereavement — case by case, at its discretion.

05Renewal and cancellation

Membership renews automatically each year on the anniversary of your first payment, at the rate then in effect, so your listing and benefits never lapse by accident.

  • We email you a reminder before each renewal, showing the date and the amount.
  • You can cancel at any time from your member portal, or by emailing us.
  • Cancel before the renewal date and you are not charged again.
  • Cancel after a renewal has been charged and the cooling-off period in section 3 does not apply — but if the renewal took you by surprise, contact us within 14 days and we will work it out with you.
  • When a membership ends, the account stays open on the free tier. Your directory listing is removed; your profile is not deleted unless you ask us to delete it.

06If a payment fails

If a renewal payment is declined, Stripe retries it over the following days and emails you so you can update your card. If it still has not gone through after that, the membership moves to the free tier and the directory listing comes down. Pay the outstanding dues and the membership resumes — nothing is lost in the meantime.

07If the chamber ends your membership

  • If we decline your application after payment — for example the business does not pass the chamber's vetting — you get a full refund.
  • If we end your membership for a serious breach of the Terms of Service, dues are not refunded.
  • If the chamber discontinues a membership benefit you paid for and cannot offer a fair equivalent, we will refund the unused portion of your year.

08Event fees

Where an event carries a fee, it is refundable in full if you cancel at least 7 days before the event. After that we cannot refund it — catering and venue costs are already committed — but you are welcome to send someone else in your place; just tell us the name beforehand.

If the chamber cancels or reschedules an event, you get a full refund or a place at the new date, whichever you prefer. An individual event page may set different terms, in which case the terms on that page apply.

09Duplicate or incorrect charges

If you were charged twice, charged the wrong amount, or charged after cancelling, tell us and we will refund the error in full. This is never subject to any window in this policy.

10How refunds are issued

Refunds go back through Stripe to the original payment method — we cannot send them anywhere else. Approved refunds are issued within five business days, and typically appear on a card statement within a further five to ten business days depending on your bank.

You will get a confirmation email when the refund is issued.

11Taxes

The chamber is not currently registered for GST/HST, and no tax is charged on membership dues or event fees. If the chamber registers in the future, any tax charged will be refunded along with the amount refunded, and this policy will be updated with the registration number.

12How to request a refund

Email contact@bcmcc.net, or use the contact form, with:

  • Your name and business name
  • The email address on your membership
  • The date and amount of the payment
  • Briefly, what you would like us to do

We acknowledge refund requests within two business days and aim to resolve them within five.

13Chargebacks

If something looks wrong on your statement, please contact us before disputing it with your bank — it is almost always faster, and a chargeback filed against a small chamber costs it a fee on top of the disputed amount. We would much rather just sort it out. The chamber may suspend a membership while a chargeback is outstanding.
